I actually struggled with where to begin with this review because we truly had the most *INCREDIBLE* time staying at the Grand Hotel Amrath! I like to prepare before staying somewhere and could see the reviews for this hotel were mixed and honestly I can't understand why, it's the most gorgeous hotel we've ever stayed in and we're so glad we booked here.
We stayed for 4 nights and this was our first time staying here and visiting Amsterdam. We were greeted with a warm welcome from the staff who helped us get my wheelchair and luggage into the hotel using their disabled entrance. The staff made us feel so welcome and were happy to help us with my mobility aid. Then greeted warmly at the front desk, they helped us check in smoothly!
Finding your room the first time may be a slight challenge but once you get your bearings it's easy to remember which way to go. When we entered our room we gasped at how beautiful it was and how tall the ceiling was too. The kind staff had left us an anniversary card as well as a little treat - such a lovely touch! The bed itself was so comfortable which really helped as I live with chronic pain. The mini-fridge, teas and coffee were all stock and replenished daily, as well as our room and bed being freshly changed each day! The door to our hotel room was wide enough to get a large wheelchair through and there was space to leave it folded up by the door when it wasn't in use. The bathroom too was fully accessible and I could access the shower with ease and it was fully stocked with all your bathroom essentials! The shower pressure was gorgeous too. We didn't use the bath but it was wide and very inviting!
We had booked a breakfast included option and oh my gosh was it worth it! So much choice from warm foods, continental, pastries, fresh fruit, a wide variety of juices, teas, coffee options and even a glass of sparkling if you're celebrating. We had breakfast each morning and it was absolutely worth getting up for. The breakfast staff were so friendly, offering choices from the egg menu and happy to chat whilst also offering you privacy if you preferred.
We used the spa facilities twice! The pool was lovely and big enough for 3 pairs of couples to swim together, we enjoyed the infrared sauna as well as the 70 degree sauna, relaxed in the steam room and left feeling completely tranquil. The jacuzzi was out of service which was such a shame but we understand these things happen and the hotel stated on it's website that it was going to be repaired by mid December.
On our last morning we asked if we could leave our luggage and the wheelchair in storage as we wanted one last gentle stroll/tram around the city, the staff were more than happy to help us with this. Upon our return, they helped us get to the taxi rank outside of the hotel!
We'd like to extend our warmest gratitude to all the staff at the Grand Hotel Amrath for all their support, hard work and kindness throughout our stay. We will certainly be returning next year and recommend this hotel for anyone looking for an exquisite yet affordable place to stay! Thank you so much for not viewing my disability as an issue and instead normalised the experience with support, I can't express enough how grateful I am. For any other disabled folk, including those who use a wider wheelchair, we had a delightfully accessible and memorable stay which was only possible due to how incredible all the staff are!
