Marufukuro

We had an incredible stay at Marufukuro in Kyoto. The hotel itself is steeped in history since it’s the building where Nintendo was founded, which made the experience even more special. I think we took 50 pictures of the building itself, it’s such a cool mix of Japanese architecture with mid-century modern elements. Our room was huge, with the perfect mix of old and new. One side was the founder of Nintendo’s former living room in traditional Japanese style, and the other side was a modern space with the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. The staff were amazing—friendly, thoughtful, and all spoke excellent English. Even though we don’t speak Japanese, communication was effortless. They also handled our luggage transfers between hotels, which made traveling so easy. Breakfast was fantastic each morning, and in the evenings we loved spending time in the library with a drink. The location was another highlight. It’s close to the main train line but set in a calm neighborhood outside the busiest parts of the city, which made it feel like a peaceful retreat. We stayed three nights but wished we stayed longer. This is truly one of the best hotels I’ve ever experienced, and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto. We can’t wait to stay again! Marufukuro was perfect! The staff were above and beyond and the place itself was great. The room was very comfortable and had everything needed for a relaxing stay.The location was just off the river in a quiet neighborhood but very close to everything. As someone who grew up on Nintendo staying in the birthplace was fun but it's so much more than that. We'll be back for sure.

I would give Marufukurō 10 starts if I could. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with them. The staff were all amazing and very friendly. One can see they have passion and love for what they do. Very spacious and clean rooms and comfortable beds as well. Thank you so much, we will be back for sure.
